Help

As a PHYSICAL SECURITY SPECIALIST, GS-0080-09, you will be responsible for the management and administration of the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) program. Advises the MAJCOM SF IDS program manager of any base or site activities that will impact the Integrated Base Defense Security Systems (IBDSS) program. This includes, but is not limited to, mission changes resulting in increase or decrease of resources, reconfiguration of resource areas, and construction of facilities on or in the vicinity of current and planned sensor locations. Reports and documents all IDS maintenance requirements to the servicing maintenance organization. Monitors IDS false and nuisance alarms and, when necessary, requests assistance from the maintenance organization to resolve problems and deficiency. Coordinates with maintenance and materiel management functions to ensure sufficient spare parts and maintenance are available to support the IBDSS equipment and component. Maintains Technical Orders and commercial manuals that describe equipment components and operating procedures for IDS in use. Develops local training for system operators. Assists the standardization and evaluation section in developing certification standards for system operators. Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: This position works on a 5/4/9 compressed work schedule that consists of a 5-day workweek, then a 4-day workweek (eight 9-hour days and one 8-hour day and an SDO, Scheduled Day Off) to complete the 80-hour pay period. Work schedule is subject to change based on mission requirements.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E4 through E7

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience, education or training in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately. Able to apply procedures and directives by reading and interpreting technical material. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing, using presentation and report formats. Demonstrated ability to follow directions, to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures. Learned ability to assess the surrounding environment to recognize immediate risk levels. Must have the education and validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade for one of the seven organizational program disciplines and its applicable Security Series career.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Musthave specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level that includes knowledge of SF procedures and operating methods to perform the full range of SF activities independently to include protection level resources, installation entry control, armed response, and dispatch. Must have knowledge of DoD and AF security regulations, instructions, practices, principles, and procedures including force protection, integrated base defense, anti-terrorism, and physical security.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is primarily sedentary. Some walking and standing occur during reviews of offices where classified information is stored. The reviews are not conducted under arduous conditions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is generally performed in a well-heated, lighted, and ventilated office setting. Normal, everyday risks are encountered in going to and from offices and buildings, utilizing military and commercial transportation while performing temporary duty away from the permanent duty station.
