Duties

Help

As an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR, WS-8852-12, you will:

  • Plans the overall allocation of personnel and other resources to the organizational segments supervised to accomplish work operations which, because of their scope, volume, and complexity, must be planned on a quarterly or longer basis.
  • Assigns and explains work requirements to subordinate supervisors and sets deadlines. Balances work load for subordinate work groups. Promotes economical and efficient work operations.
  • Spot checks work operations to assure production and quality standards are met.
  • Coordinates work operations with other organizations and functions.
  • Makes formal appraisal of supervisors' work performance and reviews employee appraisals submitted by them.
  • Promotes and administers such programs as cost reduction, incentive awards, suggestions, and quality assurance. Ensures that regulations governing safety and housekeeping are observed.
  • Assures that appropriate production reports and administrative records are maintained. Acts on personnel problems referred by subordinate supervisors.
  • Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises.
  • May be required to perform such additional duties as structural firefighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or to serve as a team member on boards to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Qualifications

General Experience:
Experience with the following:

  • Explain manuals and work procedures
  • Ability to organize assignments for subordinates
  • Prepare production records, work records, and reports
  • Estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs
Specialized Experience:
Must have 36 months of the following Specialized Experience:
  • Knowledge of shop processes
  • Adapt existing equipment and techniques to new situations
  • Knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function
  • Plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel
  • Review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines
  • Supervise or the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts
