About the position: This position will be assigned to the Russ Child Development Center on JBLE-Langley AFB, VA.

This is a Regular Part Time position that is guaranteed 20 hours per week but can be scheduled for up to 40 hours per week.

The purpose of this position is to perform manual labor tasks involving the use of common handtools and simple power equipment.

Duties

Help

  • Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies, and materials to and from tracks, dollies, etc. Moves heavy boxes, cartons, or luggage by hand, handtruck, or dolly; opens crates and boxes using crowbars, and cuts bands using shears; stacks boxes and cartons where directed.
  • Using a shovel, digs ditches and trenches where a pick is not needed to loosen the dirt, and where the dirt, and where grading and sloping is not required; fills holes with dirt and levels bumps and low places, using shovel, hand tamper, and rake.
  • Runs hand lawnmowers or (domestic type) powered lawnmowers, when this does not require heavy physical effort (for example, on steep grades); clears small trees and bushes, using handsaw, hatchet, or clipper.
  • Moves and arranges furniture as directed; shovels snow from sidewalks; washes and waxes cars and trucks by hand or power buffer.
Physical Effort:
Moderately heavy physical effort is required in occasionally lifting and carrying heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and in pushing heavy furniture, loading carts, etc. Frequently lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds.

Working Conditions:
Works inside or outside, occasionally in bad weather. If indoors, may be exposed to dirt and dust. Chance of serious injury (e.g., broken bones, severe cuts, strained back). Continuous standing, walking, stooping, or lifting is required.

  • This position requires satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks in accordance with Air Force and DoD policy, and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
  • This position has been identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent of this position will be subject to and must consent to a pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Must provide a copy of good driving record and maintain a good driving record.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and one every three years thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires incumbent to be at least 18 years of age and provide a copy of their HS diploma or equivalent.
  • This position may be subject to on-call, nights, days, holidays, and weekends work.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain, maintain, and provide evidence of current immunizations this includes annual influenza vaccinations and be free of all communicable diseases.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:

  • Experience in operating one or more gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles with a GVW of up to 10,000 pounds such as pickup trucks, sedans, vans, jeeps, etc.
  • Experience of defensive driving techniques is desired, including skills to recognize developing hazardous road and traffic conditions and the judgment to select alternate routes to avoid potential problems.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use, control, and clean common hand tools, and simple power equipment.
  • Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions involving duties with several distinct tasks or steps.
  • Must be physically able to frequently lift and carry medium to heavy objects up to 40 pounds and be able to occasionally lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to actively bend, stoop, stand, reach, and work in awkward positions.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
