Summary

This position is located in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department of Commander Navy Region Southwest (CNRSW). The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of tasks in order to operat, maintain and repair buildings, grounds, related structures, fixures and utilities. Typical work assignments include visual inspections and operational tests in order to determine necessary maintenance and repair of all MWR facilities.

Duties

Help

This position is that of an onsite- working leader responsible for repair services, electrical maintenance, plumbing, carpentry related skills, grounds maintenance, moving and setup of furniture and equipment, and various other constructive duties.

Plans the weekly and daily work schedules and sequence of operations, establishes deadlines and priorities based on the weekly schedule, maintenance request and the methods and policies established by higher- level supervisors. Must determine which assignments can be done concurrently, or which require sequential treatment. Must make and revise assignments considering the number and type of personnel available, their skill level, the availability or equipment and materials.

Prepares and maintains a variety of daily time and attendance records. Directs efforts of maintenance personnel in the performance of repair tasks within the limitations of their position descriptions and ensures the final inspection and quality assurance checks are completed for all work performed.

Performs administrative duties that are related to the accomplishment of daily tasks, i.e. planning and estimating, purchasing record keeping, maintains facility and equipment maintenance manuals, ensures that all receipts and documentations are processed in accordance with NRSW regulations.

Performs labor to support special equipment movement tasks such as furniture movement and set-up in MWR buildings, equipment movement within MWR facilities, movement to or from the warehouse, assembly of furniture and equipment, and removal and disposal of damaged or undesirable MWR gear. Operates Counter- Balanced Skip loader with tool attachments, as needed.

Incumbent is responsible for exercising proper use and care of tools and equipment.

Ensures compliance with duties as Hazardous Waste coordinator for "maximum" 90- day collection site. Maintains the MSDS list, and ensures that all required environmental permits are current. Performs daily inspections for any chemical leaks in and around the facility. Ensures that the hazardous Waste procedures as needed.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years in maintenance or construction work.
  • Have a practical working knowledge of subordinate duties as well as administrative requirements.
  • Sound knowledge in the fields of plumbing, carpentry, painting and electrical maintenance.
  • Skill in the use of a wide variety of equipment and tools.
  • Ability to maintain records and reports.
  • Knowledge of inventory procedures and controls.
  • Ability to perform construction repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to instruct.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.

The IRC includes a check of the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP) records in the Alcohol and Drug Management Information Tracking System (ADMITS) database, a check of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) records in the Fleet and Family Support Management Information System (FFSMIS), and an installation security/base check via the Navy Justice Information System (NJIS) database and/or other law enforcement systems. This information will be used to determine suitability for the applicant in accordance with criteria for automatic and presumptive disqualifiers, per DoDI 1402.05.Per Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1402.05.

Background Checks on Individuals in DoD Child Care Services Programs, incumbents will be automatically disqualified for a conviction in either civilian or military court (to include any general, special, or summary court-martial conviction or if they received non-judicial punishment [under Article 15 or chapter 47 of Title 10, U.S.C]) for any of the following: a sexual offense, any criminal offense involving a child victim, or a felony drug offense. Additionally, the incumbent will be automatically disqualified if he/she has been held to be negligent in a civil adjudication or administrative proceeding concerning the death of or serious injury to a child or dependent person entrusted to the individual's care.

Non-U.S. citizens with fewer than three years of recent residential history in the U.S. may be determined ineligible for employment.
