Duties

Help
  • Oversees routine daily operations to ensure the analysis and documentation of all manufacturing waste from passport and secure card production.
  • Ensures waste, returned passports, and returned secure cards from the U.S. Department of State's (DOS) issuing agencies and from various government agencies are documented.
  • Assigns work and provides oversight and guidance to ensure work is completed in compliance with security protocols and ensures the proper collection and reporting of data for defective books, secure cards and manufacturing waste.
  • Conducts training to ensure staff are trained on proper inspection techniques, identification of defects and use of equipment in the Centers.
  • Provides updates to the Secure Supply Chain Manager on the status and progress of work, and all work delays.

  • TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. Applicants must have served 1 year at the next lower grade level or equivalent grade level of federal service to qualify.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is mostly sedentary. Moderate physical effort is required in lifting and moving cartons of books and walking between inspection areas.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed in an open office/inspection room and in the Passport Production areas. Access to areas is limited.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Lead Documents Inspection Technician, PG -1801-9, you must meet the following requirements:

To qualify for the Lead Documents Inspection Specialist PG-09, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the PG-07 grade level in the Federal Service that includes: 1) using quality assurance methods, principles, and practices including statistical analysis and sampling techniques; 2) interpreting and applying product specifications, technical data, regulations, and other guideline materials; or 3) understanding of warehouse operations: including forklift operation, shipping and receiving, storage and issue.
OR
Master's or equivalent graduate degree, related to the work of the position.
OR
2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or LL.B. or J.D., if related- leading to such a degree related to the work of the position.
OR
Combination of education and Specialized experience that equals 100%.

Background Investigation:

For a Secret Clearance:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a Secret clearance. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Secret clearance. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs; this security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.

GPO will conduct an interim security clearance, pending the completion of the full investigative requirements for the final Secret clearance. The interim security clearance will be granted based on the favorable completion of preliminary checks that are accomplished as part of the security clearance process. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.

Schedule A (Disability Appointment):
