Summary

About the Position: Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate-controlled office with another person. Medical Board office hours are 7:30 A.M. - 4:00 P.M. Applicant can expect to administer program requirements, analyze, and evaluate a variety of customers (military and Family members) as related to the Retirement, Transition, and Survivor Benefits Programs Advise and assist customers with a variety of problems, questions, and situations. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Duties

Help
  • Assist individuals and their families in preparing appeals, rebuttals including coordinating the assignment of Soldier's legal counsel and evaluation appointments.
  • Counsel military personnel from the Army, Navy, and Marine branches, retirees and the family members of those being processed through the disability evaluation board on their rights, benefits, privileges or obligations.
  • Interpret regulations and policies governing disability processing for uniformed services personnel disability programs.
  • Interpret and articulate to clients the ratings justifications as outlined in the Veterans Affairs Schedule for Ratings Disabilities.
  • Refer personnel to the appropriate agencies to obtain counseling/guidance on benefits provided by the Department of Labor, Social Security Administration and Veterans Affairs (VA).
  • Coordinate evaluation appointments and schedules for follow-up appointments.
  • Prepare and conduct a variety of briefings and training relevant to the Physical Disability Evaluation System to installation leadership, Officers and Senior Enlisted Officers and administrative support staff, etc.
  • Utilize various electronic systems including, the Electronic Disability Evaluation System, Electronic Physical Evaluation Board, The Health Artifact and Image Management Solution.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes advising patients on the medical evaluation process such as explaining medical board findings, medical forms, and medical test preparations; interpreting regulations and/or standard operating procedures governing disability processing; and educating patients and/or staff on issues related to medical evaluation board (MED) processing. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: a major study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
