Duties

Help
  • You will perform fact-finding, research, and analysis on legal assignments from the Counsel, staff attorneys, and clients.
  • You will represent Commander Joint Region Marianas (CJRM) Office of General Counsel (OGC) in meetings and discussions with other stakeholders involved in legal matters under consideration.
  • You will assemble case and legislative files and review current legislation, regulations, directives, and decisions to keep CJRM and CNIC abreast of the current state of law.
  • You will assist attorneys in case development for formal court or administrative proceedings.
  • You will participate in pretrial witness conferences, prepare and organize trial exhibits, and participate in trial as an assistant to counsel.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.
  • You will be required to sign the Statement of Understanding for Overseas Employment acknowledging receipt and understanding of the statement of living and working conditions for this location.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security Secret clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: 1) Conducting research for the preparation of case files on a variety of legal subjects; 2) Analyzing the legal impact of administrative and judicial decisions, opinions, determinations, and rulings on agency programs; 3) Performing substantive legal analysis to support work of staff attorneys; 4) Effectively communicating legal research and suggested resolutions in a clear, concise form; and 5) Producing legal documents in a clear, concise, and organized manner for the intended audience, using correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Education


In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or
  • 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or
  • LL.M., if related.
