Job Summary

The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers, and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 650 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, childcare, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.

This paid internship* is in the IT Customer Solutions Department, House Information Resources (HIR), Office the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), U.S. House of Representatives (House). HIR provides a wide range of technological services and support for the House. HIR employs several hundred people with a variety of skills including coding, design, telecommunications, emergency response, and online security.

CAO-HIR is excited to provide a one-of-a-kind learning experience for an enthusiastic future technology specialist. This internship will offer the ability to (1) work on everything from computer hardware and software to mobile devices, and (2) contribute to meaningful and rewarding support programs in service of the House. In this challenging role, you’ll collaborate with a diverse and passionate team of talented technology staff and gain meaningful IT experience on prestigious Capitol Hill.

*Paid at an annual rate of $36,469 not to exceed 120 days

** The CAO standard business hours are 8:30am-5:30pm Monday through Friday.  This is a full-time 40-hour per week internship that will require onsite attendance in Washington, D.C.

This position does not have any day-to-day supervisory duties

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide system administration and technical service support to staff of the U.S. House of Representatives (House).
  •  Support the HIR Congressional Transition Team with providing technical and administrative support with Departing, Returning and New Member activities.
  • Provide end-user software/hardware troubleshooting; mobile device ordering, configuration and apps installation; peripheral support, i.e. printers, headphones, USB camera; and computer/laptop imaging and disconnect/reconnect.
  • Provide front line phone, Live Chat, and Remote Desktop support.
  • Work with SharePoint Team on SharePoint Development & Administration.
  • Performs other official duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in a technical or quantitative discipline, including computer science, computer engineering, information systems, and information technology, or a related field.
  • Must possess knowledge of a variety of hardware, software, firmware and related workstreams (to include SharePoint Development).
  • Must be able to work with all levels of a multifaceted workforce as well as with sensitive, confidential, and complex projects/ responsibilities. Ability to multi-task and work well both independently and on a team required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, as well as the ability to establish effective working relationships with senior staff and other high-ranking officials.
  • The ideal candidate will be a results-oriented team player possessing an interest in public service.
