Join our community of Ojibwe located on the largest freshwater lake in Minnesota. This position is located at Red Lake IHS Indian Health hospital within the Bemidji Area Indian Health Service. The purpose of this position is the provision of comprehensive clinical medical care (Educative, Preventive, Curative, Rehabilitative) at a primary and secondary level in the specialty of Pediatrics in an inpatient or outpatient setting.

  • Provide direct patient care to newborn, child, and adolescent patients.
  • Provide chronic, acute, follow-up, and preventative medicine services.
  • Provide age appropriate anticipatory guidance for injury and illness prevention.
  • Interpret and synthesize clinical data.

Measles, Rubella, and seasonal influenza immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities. Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

1 - Degree: Your resume and/or transcripts must reflect that you possess a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada accredited by either the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or another accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained
OR
Degree from Foreign Medical School: Your resume and/or transcripts must reflect that you possess a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States as demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

2 - Medical License: You must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

3 - Graduate Training: You must also submit documentation showing that you have completed at least one (1) year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting through one of the below programs approved by an accrediting body recognized within the United States or Canada:

  • Completion of an internship through a hospital or other institution accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
  • Completion of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (AMA) or ACGME.
  • Completion of a fellowship program which involved advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:

GS-14: Applicants must have at least four (4) years of equivalent experience in the specialty of the position to be filled;
  • Completion of four (4) years of graduate training (internship, residency or fellowship program) in the specialty of the position to be filled.
OR
  • A combination of experience and equivalent graduate training (internship, residency, or fellowship program) in the specialty of the position to be filled that when combined total at least four (4) years
Selective Placement Factor: Applicant must possess a board certification in the specialty of to which the applicant is applying for. Submit a copy of the board certification in the application for further consideration. The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
