Duties

Help
  • You will layout, connect and disconnect temporary electric power lines from pier temporary power supplies to ship’s shore power terminals.
  • You will lay out, make temporary installations, connect and disconnect Shipyard provided temporary lighting circuits and various blower, pump and other accessory electrical equipment circuits.
  • You install and remove temporary ventilation systems and address electrical Grade “A” Pure water production and delivery issues.
  • You will layout, connect, maintain and disconnect electrical cables and power supplies to support freeze seals. You will produce and deliver Pure Water.
  • You will produce and deliver Pure Water.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO INSPECT - lay out, connect and disconnect temporary power cables from Ship's shore power terminal to dockside power supply sources, determine ship's power requirements, make temporary layouts and installations of main power supply circuits, ship grounding circuits.

A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.

Frequently handle objects weighing up to 44 pounds and occasionally, heavy exertion is required. Work requires frequent sitting, kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling, climbing, cramped and awkward positions. Other physical requirements include visual acuity color vision, depth perception, close hand- eye or hand-eye-foot coordination, finger dexterity and keen hearing.

Performs work indoors and outdoors exposing them to the prevailing weather conditions, noise, and intermittent slippery or uneven surfaces. Occasionally, work is performed in cramped areas, close confined spaces of ships and submarines with minimum light and ventilation. They are regularly exposed to moving objects, elevations, and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises, and to noise and vibration from machines. They are also exposed to the possibility of an electric shock when working on wet surfaces. Serious injury from slipping and falling may occur while working in the dry dock, uneven surfaces, and from ladders and staging. Dirt, grease, dampness, and chemical fumes are frequently encountered. Various protective devices such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and hard hats are used.

The incumbent may be assigned to work areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include but are not limited to fumes, dust, noise, heat, ionizing and non- ionizing radiation, chemicals, etc. The shipyard maintains personnel protection programs consistent with applicable laws and regulations to ensure employee safety and health. These programs may include engineering controls, training, work procedures, use of personal protective equipment, and medical surveillance. As part of the medical surveillance programs, the incumbent may be required to take medical examinations
