Duties

Help

As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC TITLE 32 PERMANENT, WG-8852-10, you will accomplishes on and off equipment maintenance on aircraft systems and components such as wheel and tire, flight control, canopies, landing gear, and performs general heavy airframe maintenance, beyond the capability of other maintenance activities. Provides capability for the recovery and reclamation of equipment of damaged or crashed aircraft.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs all phases of the repair and reclamation process for crashed or damaged aircraft utilizing lifting bags, cranes, hoists, slings, forklifts, and other heavy equipment. Maintains and stores the special equipment identified and assigned to the crash recovery mission.

Serves on the flight control team and may coordinate team functions. Participatesin flight crew debriefing, troubleshooting, repairing: and replacing componentsas required.

Advises on and participates in the removal. rigging, and replacement of flightcontrol surfaces, portable huffet and lavatory units. Utilizes a wide variety of technical gauges, instruments and tools such as bead breakers, micrometers, dial indicators.pressure gauges, torque wrenches, tensiometers, weight and balance testers, and insideand outside calipers to test. overhaul, rig and install major airframe components.

Accomplishes organizational and intermediate level maintenance, which involvesmajor repairs, TCTO's, and/or flight controls, landing years. doors and canopies andassociated equipment requiring structural or component maintenance beyond the capabilitiesof other activities.

Performs intermediate level maintenance on aircraft wheel and tires and mayalso accomplish organizational maintenance such as wheel and tire and brake changes.When a supply point for build-up assets is established in the shop, will insure DIF+assets processing and procedures are accomplished according to applicable directives.

Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as ORI, II: and LIE inspections, mobility, and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty. security guard. snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heave equipment operator; maintenance of facilities and equipment. or serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.

Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Qualifications

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Military Grades: E2 to E6

Selectee(s) must be within the military grade(s) listed in this job announcement prior to the effective date of placement into the technician position.

Compatible Military Assignments: 2A5X4

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: (WG10) - Must have experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.

It is not necessary for applicants to possess the MOS/AFSC listed as compatible to the position in order to apply, however applicant must meet the qualifications for the position. It is applicant's responsibility to acquire a compatible MOS/AFSC within 1 year of appointment. Coordinate with your unit's training representative to determine whether or not you can qualify for a specific MOS/AFSC and/or receive training within the 1 year timeframe before accepting the position.
