JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to perform work involving installing, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, calibrating, aligning, and maintaining the complete electronic integrated systems on Army National Guard helicopters.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard.

The major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs operational checks, inspections, tests and troubleshooting on electronic integrated systems composed of a number of sensor subsystems: Integrated Vehicle Health Management System (IVHMS), the Common Missile Warning System (CMWS), the Improved Countermeasure Dispenser System (ICMD), the Night Vision Goggle System(NVG), the Air Data Subsystem, the Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS) and Doppler/GPS Navigation System (DGNS), Command Instrument Set (CIS); a logic subsystem, the Multiplex Data Bus System (MUX), the Multiplex Remote Terminal Units (MRTU), Data Link Terminal Units (DLTU), and Digital Automatic Flight Control System (DAFCS); and actuating subsystems, and the Digital Automatic Stabilization System (DASS), which includes the Stability Augmentation System (SAS) and Command Augmentation System (CAS) and Hover Augmentation System (HAS).
  • Completes operational checks, inspections, tests and troubleshooting of Line Replaceable Units (LRU).
  • Completes bench check, testing, repair, inspection, modification, programming, reprogramming, mating, adjusting, alignment, and analyzing of LRUs and shop replaceable units.
  • Recommends methods to improve equipment performance, technical data, and maintenance procedures by reporting hardware and software malfunctions, initiates material deficiency reports both on equipment and in technical data, and assists in design changes as necessary.
  • When designated on NGB Flying Status Orders, serves as member of flight crew for the purpose of diagnosing and recording malfunctions, or otherwise determining maintenance and repair requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside in well-lighted, heated and ventilated areas or on the aircraft in high or restricted places, under conditions of heat or cold, and occasionally outside in inclement weather. Subject to injuries such as electrical shock, cuts and bruises, as well as burns caused by electrical or Radio Frequency energy, or by soldering irons. Works in high noise environment.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort involves lifting components and equipment, also working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Items lifted generally weigh up to 40 pounds. Assistance is usually available with heavier items. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching and stooping is required.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: An applicant must have a validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 24 months of specialized experience in the following:

  • Experience demonstrating skill, knowledge, and abilities of the FWS 2610 work at the Electronics Branch of an Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF), Army Aviation Flight Activity (AAFA), or Theatre Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG).
  • Experience demonstrating competence in performing electronic integrated systems work activities on Army National Guard helicopters such as, installing, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, calibrating, aligning, and maintaining these systems.
  • Experience demonstrating the skill in performing operational checks, inspections, tests, and troubleshooting on electronic integrated systems composed of a number of sensor subsystems: Integrated Vehicle Health Management System (IVHMS), the Common Missile Warning System (CMWS), the Improved Countermeasure Dispenser System (ICMD), the Night Vision Goggle System (NVG), the ARNG Data Subsystem, the Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS) and Doppler/GPS Navigation System (DGNS), Command Instrument Set (CIS); a logic subsystem-- Multiplex Data Bus System (MUX), the Multiplex Remote Terminal Units (MRTU), Data Link Terminal Units (DLTU), and Digital Automatic Flight Control System (DAFCS); and actuating subsystems--Digital Automatic Stabilization System (DASS), which includes the Stability Augmentation System (SAS) and Command Augmentation System (CAS) and Hover Augmentation System (HAS).
  • Experience demonstrating the skill in conducting operational checks, inspections, tests and troubleshooting of Line Replaceable Units (LRU).
  • Experience in isolating unusual malfunctions using technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, tools and test equipment including automatic test equipment.
  • Experience demonstrating competence in identifying and solving problems system concerns by analyzing installation, circuitry, and operating characteristics of these systems.
  • Experience demonstrating the skill in in adjusting and aligning sensors, transmitters, amplifiers, power supplies, display devices, controls, actuators, servos, computers and other related components.
  • Experience removing faulty LRUs for shop repair.
  • Experience demonstrating the skill and knowledge in the installation of serviceable components into the aircraft and in performing total systems alignments, in accordance with existing technical manuals and directives.
  • Experience in following technical manual compliance and modification of components and systems; and, and skilled in completing systems checks for proper operations.
  • Experience in maintaining, modifying, calibrating and inspecting a wide variety of user tests, measurements, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).
  • Experience in completing bench checks, testing, repairs, inspections, modifications, programming, reprogramming, mating, adjusting, alignments, and analyzing of LRUs and shop replaceable units.
  • Experience in using a variety of test equipment such as, automatic test equipment (ATE), oscilloscopes, DTA computer, multi-meters, power-meters, and special purpose bench test sets.
  • Experience demonstrating the competence to test and troubleshoot solid state electronic assemblies and subassemblies such as, circuit cards, modules, rate gyros, electronic control amplifiers, electro-mechanical assemblies, random access memories, programmable read-only memories and various integrated circuits.
  • Experience in recognizing methods to improve equipment performance, technical data, and maintenance procedures by reporting hardware and software malfunctions, initiates material deficiency reports both on equipment and in technical data.
  • Experience in debriefing aircrews to determine the nature of system malfunctions, then documents all maintenance performed and records information related to the system, LRU's, or shop repairable units on both aircraft and historical records.
  • Experience as a flight crew member for the purpose of diagnosing and recording malfunctions, or otherwise determining maintenance and repair requirements.
  • Experience in providing instructional training to other mechanics in regard to the repair of computer controlled automatic test equipment, line replaceable units and aircraft integrated systems.
  • Experience including participation in various types of readiness evaluations such as, Operational Readiness Evaluations (ORE), Command Logistics Readiness Inspections (CLRT-X), and Aviation Resource Management Surveys.
  • Experience in performing additional duties such as, structural firefighting, aircraft handling, heavy equipment operation, and maintenance of facilities and equipment, or served as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.
  • Experience demonstrating knowledge in safety, fire, security, and housekeeping regulations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to apply electronic theories and practices to identify, isolate and repair malfunctions in one or more complex integrated systems where knowledge of the entire system is necessary to interpret error data and trace back through a number of units of the system to locate deficiencies.
  • Knowledge of the principles of digital and analog circuits, electro-mechanical devices, solid state devices theory, digital techniques, synchro/servo operation and integrated circuit theory.
  • Ability to interpret and trace schematic, logic and wiring diagrams and use a wide variety of test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).
  • Ability to perform algebraic and trigonometric formulas to solve work-related problems.
  • Knowledge of the Army Maintenance Management System (TAMMS) and other automated programs, publications or directives as may be applicable to the function.
  • Skill in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Skill in duties such as, install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, align, calibrate, and rebuild multi-system avionics complexes.
  • Ability to format and write English in reports and presentation formats.
  • Skill in presenting formal training presentations and briefings.
  • Skill in applying procedures and directives by reading and interpreting material.
  • Skill in training, mentoring, leading, and problem-solving.

COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training.

UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any aviation unit within the state

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Training at the National Guard Professional Education Center (NGPEC) is a mandatory condition of employment, subject to availability of resources. NGB prescribed courses at NGPEC must be completed within 6 months of assignment to this position. Failure to complete course(s) may result in reassignment or termination of full-time employment unless extenuating circumstances preclude course attendance.

No substitution of education for specialized experience.

Additional information

Primary Change of Station (PCS) relocation expenses will NOT be paid.

Incentive Termination without Recoupment: If you accept a Military Technician (Mil Tech) Permanent position where membership in the National Guard is a condition of employment, your bonus will be terminated with no recoupment as long as you have served at least 6 months of the bonus contract following receipt of the initial bonus payment.
