Duties

Help
  • Delegate work to staff to ensure work is completed timely and accurately.
  • Review the work of others to ensure the work is thoroughly completed and meets compliance standards.
  • Provided progress reports to Supervisor including work operations, issues and concerns.
  • Input facility schematics of system locations, using manufacturer special purpose source programs, guides and codes.
  • Make recommendations to the Facilities Management Branch to modify designs and/or scopes of work.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot environmental monitoring and control systems (EMCS) using line drawings, blueprints, manufacturer’s specifications, trade manuals.
  • Utilize test equipment to locate source of problem when performing maintenance.
  • Install and maintain new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures and controls located in and near installation buildings and structures.
  • Ensure electrical systems, components and fixtures meet prescribed electrical codes.
  • Install and maintain industrial and domestic equipment and systems, i.e. refrigerators, cold-storage room equipment, water coolers, ventilating systems, air conditioning units and systems.
  • Install and maintain a variety of heating units and systems, i.e., coal, oil, gas burning floor furnaces, low pressure hot water and steam boilers.
  • Perform preventive maintenance checks for vehicles assigned.

  • Tier 1: Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted state driver's license at all times
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government driver's license at all times.
  • Work requires travel away from the normal duty station on a minimal basis.
  • One year probationary period may be required.
  • This position requires a pre-appointment physical and annual physicals thereafter.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 80 pounds in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain the Universal Environmental Protection Agency (EOA) Certification within six months of employment.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic Leader (MVO), including maintaining or repairing HVAC systems, and electrical systems without more than normal supervision. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

  • Troubleshooting (Electronic Equipment)
  • Use of Test Equipment: Electronics


Physical Effort: Work assignments require moderate physical effort. Employees frequently lift, carry, or otherwise handle items weighing up to 80 pounds). Occasionally they handle items greater than 18 kilograms. Assistance is usually available with heavy items. They work in a sitting position for extended periods. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping is required. Occasionally, climbing and work in high places may be required.

Working Conditions: Work is usually performed inside in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. When equipment is fixed in place, it is sometimes necessary to work in warehouse or industrial areas exposed to loud noises, heat or cold, fumes, etc. Employees are subject to injuries, such as electric shock, cuts and bruises, as well as burns caused by electrical energy or soldering irons.
