The incumbent is responsible for a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks involved standard methods related to the renovation, construction maintenance of facilities.
Performing work in at least two of the following trades requiring a higher level of skill than the NA-4749-07 in the maintenance and repair of buildings and related fixtures or having significant emphasis in one of the higher-level licensed trades: Electrical, Heating, Ventilation and Colling or Plumbing. Maintains logs as required.
Plumbing: Makes basic plumbing repairs to sinks, faucets, commodes, tanks, urinals, P-traps, shut-off valves, cleaning, resealing, and replacing defective parts or units, installing water heaters, garbage disposals, faucets and sinks. Performs routine maintenance on washer/dryers. Incumbent refers more complex problems to the supervisor.
Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC): Recognizes the cause of faulty equipment and assists making repairs on a variety of HVAC units.
Electrical: Recognizes and reports electrical problems. Replaces fluorescent and incandescent ballast, blubs and tubes. Makes repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controls, equipment and fixtures such as broken and bare wiring, burned out switches and relays, loose connections and fittings, damaged light fixtures and poorly operating thermostats.
Painting: Preparation of areas and standard coating methods such as brushing, rolling and spraying to ensure surfaces are fully coated, protected and free from drips or runs. Incumbent uses specifications to thin, stir and mix coating materials according to specific directions. They apply various coating materials (paints, varnishes or shellacs) with brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other related methods or techniques ensuring that the coating finish meets surface protection requirements.
May assists with set-up/breakdown of events or special projects.
Observes required safety, sanitation and hazardous waste disposal rules and regulations. May operate a vehicle to transport tools and materials to work site.

NA-07 level:
This is a career-ladder, developmental position where the incumbent may be promoted non-competitively to the full-performance level and target grade of Maintenance Worker, NA-4749-08, Position Description (PD) MA20-11. Non-competitive promotion may occur upon meeting the following requirements: (a) satisfactory demonstration of ability to perform at the higher grade level, (b) assignment of increased responsibilities, (c) recommendation for promotion by supervisor, and (d) satisfactory completion of any required training, licenses, and developmental assignments
NA-08 level:
Minimum two years working experience that demonstrates knowledge in two areas (Carpentry, Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical or Painting). Knowledge in the applicable combination of trades sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
Must have skill in the safe use of a variety of basic hand tools, portable power tools and use of small construction equipment (scaffolding, tractors, trucks, etc.).
Knowledge of safety and environmental rules and regulations concerning procedures, tools, mechanical and electrified equipment, commonly used chemicals and basic safe work practices.
Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities and respond quickly and effectively to changing program needs and regulations.
Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written skills to be able to evaluate and provide reports on work in progress.
This position does not have a positive education requirement.
