Duties

Help
  • You will respond to fires and fire related emergencies involving structures, aircraft, motor vehicle, wildland, and hazardous materials.
  • You may be assigned to any position required such as nozzle, hose or hydrant, search, rescue, ventilation, or any other assigned duties.
  • You will inspect structures and hazardous areas for compliance with Marine Corps Orders, Base Orders on Fire regulations and National Fire Codes.
  • You will inspect fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, sprinkler and alarm systems.
  • You will respond to all emergency medical related incidents and will be required to administer emergency care in accordance with standard operating procedures.

  • The incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license upon hire.
  • The incumbent must possess and maintain a Department of Defense or Transportation Emergency Vehicles Operations Certification (EVOC) or obtain within six months of hire.
  • The incumbent must possess and maintain valid certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B).
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position requires employee to work a 72-hour work week and is subject to recall during off duty hours.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination, and annually thereafter, a medical employment physical.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Must participate in mandatory physical fitness program.
  • Must be certified at the appropriate firefighter certification levels as outlined in the DODI 6055.6M, Department of Defense (DOD) Fire Emergency Services Certification Program.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Performing firefighting duties as part of an emergency response team in structural, emergency medical, hazardous materials, emergency services communication and fire prevention.

GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: (1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) rescue operations; (3) detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; (4) operation of fire communications equipment; (5) controlling hazardous materials incidents OR (6) developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify based on equivalent education, as follows:

GS-05: Successfully completed a 4-year course of study in an accredited college of university with major study in Fire Science, Fire Training, or related fields of study.

OR

Possess a combination of specialized experience and education that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal 100 percent.

GS-04: Successful completion of a 2-year course of study in an accredited college or university in Fire Training, Fire Science, or other related fields of study.

OR

Possess a combination of specialized experience and education that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal 100 percent.

NOTE: If qualifying based on education, must submit education transcripts,and/or education documentation with the application package.
