Duties

Help
  • You will monitor quality indicator information and recommend changes to work instructions/processes to reduce unnecessary quality cost.
  • You will investigate quality discrepancies and establish/monitor corrective actions.
  • You will generate and present reports on quality information/status to Depot managers as required.
  • You will provide onsite audit capability of quality practices in use and recommend and conduct corrective training for Depot personnel.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience applying knowledge of agency regulations, procedures and work methods governing the storage, handling, shipping, preserving, packaging, testing, repairing, and modifying of large mechanical and electrical shipboard systems.
  • Experience applying knowledge of established techniques, regulations, and requirements related to a quality assurance functional program, and skill in applying this knowledge to plan and perform a variety of assignments of moderate scope and complexity for which there are precedents.
  • Experience interpreting, explaining, and applying technical requirements and specifications to quality problems encountered in activities such as procedure evaluations, process audits, product inspections, or investigations of defective materials.
  • Experience applying a practical knowledge of conventional fact-finding or investigative techniques, and skill to develop, analyze, and evaluate facts relative to unsatisfactory conditions or trends, and to prepare documented reports of findings.

Education
Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- quality assurance, statistics, mathematics, production management, industrial management, computer science, engineering, engineering technology, physical sciences, textiles, or other fields related to the position.

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree
OR
Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree
OR

A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience

THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. Section 1109 of the National Defense Authorization Act Fiscal Year 2020 Public Law 116-92 amended Section 9905 of title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.) to streamline and simplify certain Department of Defense civilian Direct Hire Authorities to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly to certain positions in the competitive service in the Department of Defense.

Regular and recurring visits to storage and test areas are required. Such visits normally require the use of safety shoes, safety glasses, and in some instances, hard hats and ear protection. The incumbent is required to spend extended periods walking, standing, or bending while observing operations or examining materials and processes.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
