Duties

Help
  • You will perform duties as Safety Diver for Naval Aviation Survival Training Program (NASTP) training devices.
  • You will perform duties as the Diving Supervisor for diving operation and NASTP training devices including 9D6 (dunker) and the Shallow Water Initial Memory Mechanical Exit Release (SWIMMER) and the Modular Shallow Water Egress Trainer (MSWET).
  • You will maintain records for: diving qualifications (Dive Logs), conducting preventative maintenance on systems (PMS, and diving system certifications.
  • You will prepare document records and equipment for Diving Operations Readiness Assessments/ Inspections and safety surveys to include 3M/SKED program compliance.
  • You will perform various duties such as conducting training in a formal classroom setting regarding diving, swimming, water survival, underwater diving procedures, and JQR training for assigned staff to qualify as instructors.
  • You will apply safety protocol and procedures to provide a safe training environment for all students and staff.
  • You will manage training spaces, equipment, and materials needed for water survival training course instruction.
  • You will create and organize the functions, supplies, scheduling and administrative activities which are required to conduct the training program.

  • Must obtain and maintain high risk instructor, CPR and USN Lifeguard certifications. Failure to obtain and maintain the required certifications may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience inspecting, maintaining, and upkeeping diving system diving equipment;
  • Experience instructing underwater egress, underwater breathing, and survival swimming;
  • Experience operating training devices and/or simulators;
  • Experience maintaining records for diving qualifications (Dive Logs), for diving operational readiness inspections and safety surveys;
  • Experience utilizing diving physics, diving medicine, diving techniques, and proper use of diving equipment in accordance with established guidance(s), (e.g., U.S. Navy Diving Manual (NAVSEA SS521-AG-PRO-0).
  • Experience using an automated system (e.g., management information system, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) to extract information;

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree

OR

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

OR

LL. B or J.D.,

Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work
