Duties

Help
  • Performs intake and ongoing mental status evaluations for inpatient clients to help determine the mental, emotional, and or behavioral needs.
  • Performs group and individual practical counseling and education for clients with psychological conditions under the direct supervision of a licensed mental health professional.
  • Annotates notes with observations made and reaction to medications.
  • Processes patients for admission.
  • Provides assistance, security, and patient comfort.
  • Maintains accountability of patients.

  • Position may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40pounds is required.
  • Must obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain certification through the America Heart Association in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Must obtain within 6 months of employment and maintain Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMBD) required training.
  • This position requires occasional TDY - 5%.

Qualifications



In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes behavioral health assessments, evaluating mental health patients to determine required services, and maintaining patients' charts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
