Summary

The incumbent conducts various tasks in connection with maintenance, repair, and operation of the boiler plant and chiller plant.
Seeing to it that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available.
Urging or advising other workers to follow instructions received from supervisors, and to meet deadlines.
Assuring that safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
Monitors Carbon Monoxide and combustible sensors and alarm panels.
Operates and maintains a De-Aerator Tank (1,000 gallon capacity) and 3 salt softeners (18,000 gallon capacity) for producing soft water for steam production and chilled water.
Makes minor adjustments necessary to allow the A/C system to function appropriately as emergency calls are received from patient areas and occupied areas of the facility.
Start and stop air conditioning equipment as appropriate, checks operational status of A/C equipment, monitors readings of alarms, temperature, etc., and makes minor adjustments from the computer system.
Keep daily and monthly logs for all operations of the plant.

Physical Requirement: You will be asked to participate in a pre-employment examination or evaluation as part of the pre-employment process for this position. Questions about physical demands or environmental factors may be addressed at the time of evaluation or examination.Incumbent may install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment or components from ladders, platforms and scaffolding and in cramped or hard to reach areas. This can require walking long distances, prolonged standing, stooping, bending, and climbing in uncomfortable or tiring positions. The working conditions vary with the environment. It may be inside or outside, and is generally dirty, dusty, greasy, and may be in inclement weather. Incumbent must be medically able to wear a respirator. The incumbent frequently lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds. He/she occasionally may handle materials and equipment that weighs in excess of 70 lbs. The incumbent must be able to routinely fit into the mud and steam boiler drums.
Working Conditions: Works both indoors and out of doors in a variety of environments including inclement weather. The incumbent may be assigned to work in areas where certain potentially harmful physical and/or chemical agents are present such as in the research labs. To ensure employee safety and health, personnel protection programs are maintained. These programs may include engineering controls, training, work procedures, use of personal protective equipment, and medical surveillance. As part of the medical surveillance programs, the incumbent may be required to take medical examinations to assess his/her medical qualification for duty. Incumbent may be subject to bruises, cuts, scrapes, burns and other minor injuries. The incumbent must be able to routinely fit into the mud and steam boiler drums. The incumbent works inside of boilers in cramped and uncomfortable positions at elevated temperatures.
