Summary

This position is located in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR)/Quality of Life (QOL) Department in the Navy Region Southwest. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of general maintenance and preparation of athletic playing areas. Areas maintained may include athletic fields and tracks, and recreational areas.

Duties

Help

  1. Maintains the cleanliness and the conditioning of playing fields. Prepares field for regulation play to include but not limited to leveling infield, hosing, raking, and adding soil as necessary, and marking playing field boundary lines and other lines as require. Places and or replaces yard markers, goal post, nets or fences and maintain athletic facilities and grounds for athletic events. Operates a four-cylinder tractor pulling a spiked drag over the infield to break the lop layer of dirt followed by dragging, removing weeds and by filling in low areas with dirt. Marks playing areas using a dry line marker and gypsum. Plants grass, and mows grass areas using riding lawn mower and a tractor to roto-till grounds. Operates gas and/or diesel-powered tractor, with aerator, fertilizer spreader and backhoe.
  2. Repairs and maintains bath house/restrooms and associated pool structures and furniture. Maintains aquatic facilities including vacuuming swimming pools, performing water chemistry tests, and adding chemicals to maintain required chemical levels. Operates filtration systems and back flushes pumps as needed. Maintains cleanliness of the aquatic areas. Prepares aquatic facilities for recreation swim-ming, pool parties, and special events.
  3. Performs general maintenance. Duties include trim-ming shrubs and trees, weeding, removing trash, transporting or moving supplies, painting, repairing equipment and furniture as needed. Performs general cleaning tasks as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
  4. Picks up and delivers equipment and supplies as needed. Repairs and maintains tools and equipment performs routine maintenance on equipment as required.

  • Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background Investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.

Qualifications

Skilled in the use of a variety of hand tools including hammers, saws, drills, screwdrivers, pliers, socket sets, shovels, and picks.

Ability to operate tractors, roto-tillers, air blowers, weed eaters, and buffers.

Possess a general knowledge of athletic facilities and ground preparation for various outdoor sports.

Skill is needed to maneuver driver operated machinery in small places, tight, confined spaces, and in small turning radius.

Pool water chemistry is tested and adjusted daily.

Knowledge to apply standard measurements and specification to accomplish work.

Ability to learn and retain HAZMAT/MSDS requirements on handling of chemicals, fertilizers, and other ground keeping and marking agents.

Frequent routine maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment is performed. Must be able to read and interpret mechanical repair manuals.
