Duties

Help

As an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic, WG-5306-10, you will develop, established and maintain work center training programs. Plans and schedules tasks and training activities for drill status guard members. Oversees and conducts on-the-job training (OJT) for personnel. Creates and develops lesson plans. Ensures availability of facilities and training aids. Monitors the training status of personnel and ensures that supplemental and/or remedial training is accomplished. Incumbent is responsible for mobilization readiness of section personnel and equipment. Responsible for unit wide operator training programs for selected equipment (e.g. generator operator training). May be responsible for unit wide training in environmental issues including Hazardous Communication (HAZCOM), Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) and other environmental related areas. May act as the unit environmental manager.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort involves stooping, bending, stretching, standing, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Requires moderate to strenuous physical exertion including pushing and shoving of wheeled equipment. Lifts heavy equipment and components weighing up to 40 pounds and with assistance, lifts items weighing over 40 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside, in inclement weather, on icy, wet and slippery surfaces and work areas, and in temperature and humidity extremes. Subject to the dangers from toxic fumes, oil, heat, fluids, shock, high noise level, possible cuts, abrasions and burns, extremely low temperature cryogenic liquids and extremely high air pressures while repairing, adjusting, positioning, or moving equipment. Works with high voltage electrical power and must come in contact with petroleum products. Incumbent works on equipment parts that are dirty and greasy and may be dangerous to operate or repair because of defects. Follows safety procedures and wears protective equipment that may be uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: This position is in the Excepted Federal Civil Service "under the authority of 32 U.S.C. 709" and is open to Category 1: All permanent/indefinite (T32 and T5) technicians employed by the agency Category 3: All current military members of the Florida National Guard; and Category 4: All individuals who qualify for membership in the Florida National Guard and are willing to become T32 Dual Status technicians. First consideration will be given to Category 1.

PCS: Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs, Recruitment or Relocation Incentive MAY be authorized. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses.

Recruitment / Relocation: Incentive MAY be authorized. ONLY after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Florida National Guard.

FLANG BUS Code NG0523: This position is "included" in the bargaining unit and eligible for labor organization representation. The current exclusive representative is The Association of Civilian Technicians, Chapter 86 and the President is Mr. Robert Morgan at rmorgan@actnat.com.

MILITARY GRADE - ENLISTED: E3 thru E6

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience or training providing ability to service, correct and repair malfunctions on a variety of air conditioning and cooling unit systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE - WG10: Must have at least 18 months of experience or training installing, recognizing the complex causes of faulty equipment making repairs on a variety of large domestic, commercial, and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems that provide functions of heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering, and circulating air for different kinds of structures, buildings, and complexes. Experience or training installing, repairing, modifying, and relocating equipment on various special purpose air conditioning units and systems that are frequently modified.

Recruitment Incentive: May be paid to the candidate who is "newly appointed" into this federal government position. The bonus will NTE $10,000. Payment will be a lump sum payment at the beginning of employment. Candidate must agree in writing to remain in this position for a minimum of 12 months, and if they vacate that position for another technician, AGR or active-duty service position within the initial 12-month period, the Incentive may be recouped. Current onboard technicians, if selected, are not eligible for this bonus
