Duties

Help
  • Arrange and schedule medical appointments and determines patient eligibility for services.
  • Review documentation to obtain additional information and determines eligibility for treatment.
  • Refer individuals not eligible for or not requiring, medical services in said facility to other departments or other medical facilities, as directed by supervisor.
  • Immediately refer information on patients needing emergency care to appropriate technician, nurse and/or physician, and works emergencies into the health provider’s schedule as necessary.
  • Arrange for patient consultations with other departments/facilities for such services as electrocardiograms, physical therapy, x-rays, and laboratory tests.
  • As permissible, answer questions from outside sources seeking information, such as contacts from representatives of insurance companies, private physicians, other care providers, and individuals from other agencies or organizations.
  • Upload additional forms and charts, results of treatments, and transferring results of laboratory tests, x-rays, and other procedures, and recording medical data as required by the medical staff.
  • Review all medical records to ensure accuracy of information.
  • Receive and answer or relays incoming and outgoing telephone, intercom, electronic, and voicemail messages
  • Receive telephone messages pertaining to detailed laboratory reports, x-rays, and test results, refers urgent ones to appropriate professional staff for immediate assistance.
  • Compose necessary correspondence such as requests for information.
  • Arrange meetings as directed. Initiates administrative related forms for patients’ signatures.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Red Cross, within 6 mos after start date.
  • Required to lift up to 15 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Pre-employment physical required and annually thereafter
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • Require a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience wrequirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience:One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes providing customer service, addressing phone calls and assisting visitors entering the clinic; scheduling various types of appointment and using automated systems to input and retrieve data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
