Duties

Help

Ensures safe pool environment and resource protection standards are in compliance with established procedures. Directs, instructs and reviews staff work assignments proving specific tasks, procedures and techniques and provides on the job training. Ensures strict adherence and precise attention to detail and work assignments are accomplished timely. Checks on work in progress and reviews completed work to ensure instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met. Ensures the swimming area is open to patron at scheduled times an only authorized person are admitted to the area. Using a variety of techniques such as artificial respirator, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid rescues and resuscitates individuals in danger of drowning and promptly renders first aid to injuries. Warns swimmers of unsafe environment or health conditions, hazards and recommends closing swimming areas until safe. Assists in control of chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting and that necessary repairs are made. Collect admission fees, make change, and completes appropriate forms. Reports issues of performance, progress, training needs or disciplinary problems to supervisor.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Possess physical ability to swim and rescue swimmers of all ages including adults and to administer CPR to adults, children and infants. Must posses an approved current and valid nation recognized certification in lifeguard, basic first aid and CPR which covers lifesaving and water rescue methods, skills and procedures for adult, child and infant. Experience as a supervisor. Working knowledge to satisfactorily and safely operate basic pool maintenance. Must be able to lift and carry 45 pounds.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
