Summary

Serves as a Pipefitter Supervisor for the Plumbing Shop under the Facilities Management Service at Bay Pines VA Health Care System. Ensuring that work assignments are completed correctly and accurately. Schedules the overall time and leave of subordinates while taking workload into consideration. Responsible for ensuring timely completion and reporting of performance maintenance activities, updating of the piping and plumbing infrastructure and the various associated equipment at the facility.

Duties

Help

  • Serve as the subject matter expert and primary point of contact for all things related to the piping and plumbing systems on station.
  • Ensure timely completion and report performance maintenance activities, update the piping and plumbing infrastructure and the various associated equipment at the facility.
  • Ensure work assignments are completed correctly and accurately.
  • Schedule time and leave of subordinates while taking workload into consideration.
  • Conduct interviews and hiring new employees.
  • Recommend promotions, set performance standards, complete formal evaluations, and issue or recommend disciplinary actions.
  • Identify and provide training, evaluate contractor and employee work.
  • Plan the use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, materials and tools based on the short- and long-term planning needs of department.
  • Establish deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, and plans work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level supervisors.
  • Oversee daily operation of the unit, ensures that agency policies and priorities are being followed; develops performance standards; and evaluates work performance of subordinates.
  • Review work of employees at intervals to assure quality, effectiveness, efficiency and completeness of work.
  • Ensure requisitions and spare parts inventory is adequate to support the shop workload.
  • Oversee contract service personnel while they are working on site, which involves work instructions, directing, problem solving, coordination, and work review.

Supervisory Statement: A one year supervisory probation period may be required for this position.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday Time varies depending on the need of the service.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: Frequently works and may be required to supervise from ladders, scaffolding and platforms and in hard-to-reach areas. Must be physically able to stand, stoop, turn, crouch and balances in difficult positions. Work involves standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring or uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries parts and equipment up to 50 lbs. with occasional lifting and carrying over 50 lbs.

Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside and in confined spaces. May require working in bad weather, extreme heat, or in areas where bad smelling fumes are present. Work is usually dirty, dusty, greasy, and/or wet. Employee is frequently exposed to the possibility of burns, uncomfortable heat conditions, cuts, scrapes, strains, bruises and broken bones.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
