Duties

Help
  • You will be directly responsible to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • You will weld on all types of metals in various sizes and shapes which include all Port Operations service craft, e.g., YCs, YONs, SWOBs and various other small craft and support equipment.
  • You will perform welding tasks that entail brazing, burning metal, fabrication and pipe fittings.
  • You will perform welding tasks that entail pressure vessels, structural form, plate, castings, forging, sheet metal, machinery and equipment in the fabrication, assembly and repair of boats, service craft.
  • You will support equipment both in a shop, and other areas where support equipment are located throughout the wharves.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country’s laws/regulations.
  • You will be required to sign the Statement of Understanding for Overseas Employment acknowledging receipt and understanding of the statement of living and working conditions for this location.

  • This position requires rotating shift work. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You will be required to become Facility Response team (FRT) qualified after onboarding.
  • You will be required to complete all standard oil spill response training as required by 29 CFR 1910.120 after onboarding.
  • You will be required to complete Personal Qualifications Standards (PQS) requirements as assigned by the Installation Program Director to include Maintenance and Material Management (3M) and Lockout/Tag-out qualifications after onboarding.

Additional information

The work involves continual standing while working at a bench, frequent walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and crawling to take measurements and laying out placement lines for assemblies or installing work. Welding is performed in flat, vertical, horizontal and overhead positions. Frequently climb ladders or staging on high assemblies, in shops, and aboard tugs, boats, and other service craft. Work may be done in awkward and cramped positions; use of hands, legs, and arms is required for climbing. Frequent lifting is required to handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally, objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
