Summary

We are seeking journey-level electrician who can interpret building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings to maintain, install, test, kitchen equipment, troubleshoot and repair electrical and electronic networks in historical buildings.
Full-time - This is an Excepted Service position and does not require or confer civil service Competitive Status Monday - Friday Evening shifts (1:30pm to 10:00pm) OR Sunday night - Friday morning (9:00pm to 5:30pm)
Installs, assembles, troubleshoots, modifies, repairs, and maintains standard and non-standard electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. Responsibilities include troubleshooting electrical systems and devices containing electronic components in order to isolate the cause of the malfunction of electrical control systems, analog/digital controls, and solid-state control circuits in equipment. Equipment may include; uninterrupted power supplies (UPS), fire alarm systems, adjustable frequency drives and electric motor starters for a variety of equipment including cafeteria and kitchen equipment such as ovens, ranges, deep fryers, conveying systems, lighting system, lighting control systems and electrically operated door opening systems.
Tests equipment using voltmeters ammeters, meg-ohmmeters, and other testing devices.
Autonomously works from construction plans, outlines, wiring illustrations, engineering sketches and electrical preservation and restoration instructions to install or trouble shoot electrical systems and equipment.
Performs maintenance and repairs on equipment and systems without the original schematics or drawings. Must either research the schematic via the internet or manufacturer, or in some cases trace out circuits and repair the equipment without original schematics or drawings.
Troubleshoots, examines, and energizes new and current electrical lines, electrical bus duct systems, and related features, controls, and equipment. Decides site of current electrical procedures and service entrances and situates new ones.
Detects difficult-to-find flaws or glitches. Understands and applies the National Electrical Code, local codes, construction plans, designs, wiring illustrations, and engineering diagrams, and uses trade methods to analyze shared properties, e.g., power, energy drop and current capability in series and matching circuits, inductance, resistance, capacitance, control dynamic, current stream, and temperature and span in lone and several raceways, channels, trenches, and cable trays.
Leads Workers and Helpers pulling cable, installing conduit, tagging electrical devices. mounting electrical panels, and installing bus plugs. Installs both general and specific power receptacles and associated wiring and conduit.
Completes restoration and upkeep work on the electrical and electronic kitchen machinery including ranges, ovens, garbage disposals, dishwashers deep fryers, etcetera. Repairs and maintains high-tech lighting systems, electromechanical components and electronic systems. Repairs and replaces electronic systems that control motors and other types of variable speed equipment. Troubleshoots and repairs electronic door systems. Works with an extensive selection of electrical systems and machinery typically found in occupied commercial/industrial public facilities. Systems include low voltage DC electrical systems, single-phase AC electrical systems and 3 phase AC electrical systems up to 480 volts AC.
Performs the electrical aspects of construction and restoration projects. Connects electrical devices in areas that may lack complete documentation due to the age of the facility. The Electrician must ad-lib to connect the updated circuits and apparatuses in outdated facilities without harmfully affecting the existing design or construction.
Strategizes and lays out electrical work including the routing, location, magnitude, stability, weight, and safe functioning of electrical lines and associated devices and controls.
Makes estimations of material and apparatuses needed and submits requests to manager for supplies, equipment, and materials essential to accomplish the electrical and electronic responsibilities.
Determines locations and installs electrical distribution panels and associated conduit and wiring to meet the project requirements. Re-wires, upgrades electrical services, and replaces faulty distribution panel components.
Responsible for utilizing a thorough knowledge of and compliance with applicable AOC and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas. Provides or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is utilized.
