Duties

Help
  • You will serve as a SECURITY SPECIALIST in the SECURITY DIVISION of the NAVAL INFORMATION FORCES (NAVIFOR) located in SUFFOLK, VA.
  • You will assist in managing, directing and controlling the security programs of the domain, to include general facilities protection, use of electronic access control, intrusion alarms, personnel clearance processing and related activities.
  • You will assist in the management, control and implementation of the security programs of the local command facility.
  • You will ensure proper physical safeguards for the protection and storage of classified material and equipment, access control and integrity of physical facilities.
  • You will investigate security infractions, report findings and make recommendations for corrective actions followed by preparing detailed required reports.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Top Secret SCI security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience applying full knowledge of a wide range of security concepts, principles and practices to independently review, analyze, and resolve difficult security problems. This position requires a strong working knowledge of regulatory requirements governing physical security, personnel security, information security, and force protection/anti-terrorism, and oversight/compliance inspection criteria.
  • Experience applying required knowledge of security program interrelationships sufficient to coordinate the objectives and plans of physical, personnel, information security to make recommendations to allow for differing program requirements; develop and/ or implement procedures and practices to cover multiple security objectives. The work at this level requires knowledge of a broad range of security program relationships, and significant expertise and depth of the four security disciplines.
  • Experience possessing the knowledge to plan multi-layered security systems and a great variety of state-of-the-art security equipment and devices in planning and implementing protective measures and security procedures.
  • Experience applying a working knowledge of physical, personnel, information security regulations and instructions and applying alternatives/mitigations according to the security requirements for highly specific situations, availability of materials, relationships with other protective programs and cost/benefit considerations.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
Successful completion of 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
OR

A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience

This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

The President has ordered a government-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the hiring freeze. Secondary work environment involves normal outdoor weather conditions while assessing facilities for appropriate security measures and defining defense in depth as it relates to the facilities being reviewed.

This position requires incumbent to have the ability to travel CONUS and OCONUS up to approximately 10% of the year.

This position requires occasional evening and weekend work.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
