Duties

Help

Responsible for all activities within the swimming pool area during the summer pool season, including initial set up for opening and tear down for closing. Supervises up to 15 lifeguards and 3 cashiers in performance of their daily duties. Develops duty schedules for all lifeguards to maintain minimum lifeguard on-duty requirement for daily pool operations, including private parties and lap swimming. Develops duty schedules for cashiers to ensure required coverage during all hours of pool operations. Records lifeguard hours worked and submits individual time sheets for accurate payroll payments. Maintains order and enforces established rules of safety and behavior. Instructs, cautions, and expels patrons for inappropriate behavior. Maintains currency and applies a variety of techniques such as rescue breathing, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid as required to respond to any type of safety incident. Conducts required in-service training for all lifeguards. Uses all aquatic equipment as requires and trains lifeguard staff on proper use and care of equipment including, but not limited to first aid kits, buoys, ropes, rescue rings, shepherd's hooks, backboards, and handicap lifts. Responds to, documents, and reports incidents, accidents, and injuries. Promptly reports results of any incident to the Outdoor Recreation Manager. Monitors and documents pool water chemistry (temperature, free chlorine, pH, and clarity) according to established schedules, instructions and standards. Monitors all pool areas including bathhouse, deck, lockers, showers, pool, splash pad, grounds, pavilion, parking lot, park and restroom adjacent to pool area to ensure compliance with established schedules, instructions and sanitation requirements. Reports equipment, facility and water deficiencies to Civil Engineering personnel for correction. Monitors gate control and cashier duties to ensure compliance with established standards and cash handling procedures. Performs gate control and cashier duties as required in absence of cashier. Schedules youth and adults for
appropriate skill-level swim lessons. Conducts all swimming lessons with the assistance of other lifeguards if required. Trains new lifeguards. Works non-regular shifts including nights and weekends. All required certifications must be valid prior to hire and remain valid throughout the entire pool season. Required duty availability begin two weeks prior to Memorial day and ends one week after Labor Day.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:

Must have minimum 3 years lifeguard experience. Must possess a valid, nationally-recognized lifeguard certification with lifesaving, water rescue methods, skills, and procedures. Valid, nationally-recognized basic first aid certification required. Must possess a valid
nationally-recognized CPR certification that includes adult, child and infant procedures. Possession of a nationally-recognized water safety certification or equivalent desirable but not required; however, possession will increase hiring potential and hourly wage. Pre- employment screening required for swim ability, rescue skills and CPR. Must have experience with cash handling to account for large amounts of cash with no errors. Must be able to lift and carry 45 pounds. Must possess a valid driver's license. Satisfactory completion of Installation Records Check, State, and National Criminal Background Checks is required for this position. Must have Hepatitis B immunization. Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
