Duties

Help

As a SMALL ARMS REPAIRER, WG-6610-8, you will:

  • Perform overhaul, maintenance, and repair on a variety of small arms
  • Diagnose and identify mechanical deficiencies and/or malfunctions in weapons
  • Disassemble weapons, assemblies, subassemblies and other components
  • Examine for defects, mechanical misalignment, and malfunctions
  • Replace parts and assemblies
  • Modify small weapons
  • Apply finishing agents and test fires and/or perform operational checks of arms
  • Apply modification work orders as required
  • Use hand and power tools, precision gauges, test instruments, jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications, and adjustments to small arms
  • Ensure the accountability, storage, and security of arms and other sensitive items

-Participation in direct deposit is mandatory

-May be required to successfully complete a probationary period

Title 32 Dual-Status Positions:

Military Grade:

There are two positions with the same grade requirement of SPC/E-4 to SFC/E-7.

Applicant(s) (Enlisted) who are over grade must clearly state, in their resumes, their intentions to willingly take a reduction in grade

Title 32 Dual-Status Positions: Compatible Military Assignments

Appointments may require the selected candidate to be assigned to a *military unit* compatible with the full-time Military Technician (Dual Status) position.

*Military Unit* -- The unit by which the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee; or a unit that the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee to support. (Guidance established by NJ HRO-J1)

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training which demonstrates a working knowledge to read and interpret instructions, repair manual, specifications and drawings; must have a knowledge of shop mathematics sufficient to use testing devices and measuring instruments; and be proficient in the use and maintenance of hand tools and equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Must have at least 12 months of experience or training;

  • Demonstrating the ability to work effectively and efficiently on weapons and mechanical systems in disassembly for repair, inspection to diagnose mechanical malfunctioning, wear and/or damage is required.
  • Adjusting levers, gear linkages and synchronization of interrelated mechanical systems.
  • Applying technical manuals, regulations, specifications and drawings to determine operation, assembly and a tolerance of the variety of weapons cleaned, repaired and modified
  • Using and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools and gages is required
    • Tools include; drills, files, saws, hammers, vises and precision gages and measuring instruments such as micrometers, optical comparators, ultrasonic checkers, magnafluxing machines and/or borescopes to determine when parts are worn or damaged beyond acceptable tolerances
