Duties

Help

  • The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a trip guide for whitewater rafting Bighorn Sheep, or Browns canyon as part of the USAF A Outdoor Recreation Program.
  • Maintain and prepare equipment for scheduled trips, de-rigging after trips, storing equipment properly, cleaning all equipment and rental items.
  • Inform customers of risks while on river, briefs participants on safety rules, initiate and/or directs group activities off and on the river.
  • Other assigned duties such as: kitchen cleanup, food preparation, packing supplies, cleaning rafting area, and fixing equipment. Customers include a wide range of ages, abilities and backgrounds.
  • Explains the program and answers questions related to trips/outing.
  • Provides instruction and information about specific activities that correspond with the students' abilities.
  • Performs required safety inspections on all outing equipment used.
  • When required to drive a customer to or from the program sites, incumbent drives in a safe manner so as to not to endanger vehicle, equipment and customers.
  • Aids other Recreation Assistants with other activities such as rock/ice climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, and marketing as needed and when deemed appropriate considering the employee's experience with these activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years old and have experience whitewater rafting.
  • Must be CO State qualified as a basic raft guide (50 hours, passed check ride).
  • Personal and instructional experience in multiple outdoor programs to include rock/ice climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, is highly desirable.
  • .Good interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • .Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English is required.
  • Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid training within 30 days of hire.
  • Must have the ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner.
  • The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • Position requires lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
