Summary

The Social Worker position will be under the supervisory authority for the facility where selections are made. Incumbents will provide initial clinical assessments, treatment review and planning, and engage individual and group therapy interventions as part of patient services.

  • Utilizes evidence-based practices, and culturally sensitive models to develop care plans. Incumbent will utilize the theories and therapeutic modalities, evidenced based practices and culturally sensitive models to develop plans with individual/family/group and other special populations such as the physically/mentally challenged and blended families.
  • Provide short-term follow up, possible long-term counseling and case management for patients and families via telehealth.
  • Utilizes established standards in assessment, safety planning, treatment, and follow up. The incumbent uses the SOAP format, and documents treatment plans. Documentation will follow the required standards of behavioral health policies and entities such as Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and The Joint Commission. Incumbent utilizes Electronic Health Record to document.
  • Provides independent professional decisions and recommendations for patient's continuity in care by providing structured therapeutic interventions and evaluate and interprets biopsychosocial problems of Native American youth in a residential facility.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
DEGREE: In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the Basic Requirements for a Social Worker, GS-0185 position.

  • A completed Master's degree, or higher doctoral degree, in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:

GS-11: One (1) year of specialized experience with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: provide comprehensive psychosocial assessments, mental health evaluations, coordinate patient care, make diagnosis, serve as liaison to health care providers and stakeholders to establish patient care plan, respond to emergency mental health situations, use counseling theories, and techniques.
OR
A successfully completed three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree.
OR
A combination of education and specialized experience as defined in the vacancy announcement that when combined, fully meets the minimum qualifications for this position.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Selective Placement Factor (SPF):
  • This position requires a current, valid, and unrestricted clinical license as an "Independent" Clinical Social Worker. To satisfy the placement factor, applicants must submit the applicable independent license in one of the following disciplines: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Certified Social Worker in Private Independent Practice (CSW-PIP), Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner (LIMHP), or Licensed Master Social Worker-Advanced Practice (LMSW-A).
Quality Ranking Factor (QRF):
  • The work of this position has a preferred Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) in order to provide counseling, education, support to individuals struggling with substance abuse. If applicable, you are encouraged to provide a copy of the LAC license with your application.
NOTE: The above quality ranking factor is preferred. Therefore, applicants who possess the quality ranking factor can be ranked above those who do not, but no candidates can be rated ineligible solely for failure to possess a quality ranking factor.
