Major duties include but are not limited to:

  • Perform oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity.
  • Diagnose pathological or irregular oral conditions.
  • Administer local anesthesia.
  • Perform routine and complex restoration of teeth.
  • Perform simple and complex extractions of teeth.
  • Perform alveoloplasty and other routine surgical procedures.
  • Perform prosthetic dentistry to include immediate dentures, full dentures, partial dentures, crowns, and fixed bridgework.
  • Perform routine endodontic procedures on single and multi-canal teeth.
  • Perform routine and surgical periodontal procedures.
  • Provides supervision of dental staff assigned to their clinic location.
  • Responsible for clinic administration in compliance with VHA, Medical Center, and Dental Service Directives, Policies, and Procedures.
  • Helps dental service chief in everyday activities and requirements of dental service.
  • Ensures all the clinical provider's evaluations are completed timely. FPPE /OPPE are up to date.
  • Ensures all the performance evaluations are completed on time.
  • Reviews all the consults and ensures that they are scheduled promptly.
  • Run the reports required to monitor the clinical activities.
Work Schedule: Full-time; Monday - Friday 8:00am-4:30pm.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Dentist Basic Requirement:

  • A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~
  • Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~
  • Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
Preferred Experience: Prosthodontics; Board Certified/eligible Prosthodontist.

Physical Requirements:
This position may require periods of walking, standing, and sitting; some light lifting, reaching overhead, bending, stooping, and work in front of a computer. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, and able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment.

Work Environment:
Majority of work is performed in a health care setting with adequate lighting, heating and cooling. Work may involve exposure to infection and possible contagious diseases. Standard precautions and isolation techniques will be employed as indicated. There may be occasion where response to physical and/or verbal abuse by patients requires knowledge gained from ongoing violence in the workplace training.
