About the Position:
This position is located in Beaufort, South Carolina for Elliott Elementary School.

This position is Seasonal part-time (35 hours per week).

This is a term position. It is time-limited NTE 13 months and may be extended to reach a maximum of 6 years total service.

This position may be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met.

Duties

Help
  • Clearly explain concepts being taught and observe students for understanding.
  • Develop audio-visual tactile aides and set up lab demonstrations.
  • Serve as an interpreter for deaf and/or hearing impaired students.
  • Interprets teacher's directions and messages in sign language to students.
  • Distribute and collect testing materials as needed by students.
  • Provide supervision of and instruction to students on simple subject matter.

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.

  • One year trial or probationary period may be required.
  • Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
  • This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
  • American Sign Language Certification required.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience GS-07: One year of specialized experience service which includes: using experience and signing methodology to translate conversations between deaf/hearing impaired and hearing individuals; and performing basic instruction of a quasi-professional nature to the deaf/hearing impaired. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06 or equivalent).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this grade, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted
