Help
  • Coordinates scheduling of all congressional products and services as Government Printing Office (GPO)primary liaison to various audiences and congressional staff.
  • Schedules, tracks, and sets priorities for a wide variety of products.
  • Recommends changes to congressional staff regarding product specifications for cost reduction or product improvement.
  • Represents the office of Congressional Publishing Services(CPS) in the production and development of electronic transmission of data(MicroComp, XML, or TextPad, etc.).
  • Resolves simple, informal complaints of employees and refers formal grievances and appeals to the appropriate official.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Lead Printing Specialist, PG -1654-13, you must meet the following requirements:

Basic Requirements for 1654:
Individual Occupational Requirements
Education:
Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- journalism, business administration, English composition, commerce, accounting, printing or printing engineering, graphic or commercial art, industrial engineering, or economics.

Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:

Determining specifications for the printing of manuscript, i.e., selection of typography, layout, composition, format, paper stock, and other printer's instructions.
Negotiating or administering contracts for procurement of manuscript and illustrations, printing, binding and allied services, or printing stocks (paper, inks, etc.).
Managing a printing plant that produces printing either for the government or private industry customers.
Performing production control work in a large printing plant.
Serving as a sales representative for a wide variety of printing equipment.
Analyzing the price and cost of preparation and production of printing.
Planning, estimating, and scheduling printing on a full-time basis for a variety of publications.
Performing substantive administrative support or policy functions directly related to publishing and printing program management or operations.

In addition to meeting the IOR to minimally qualify for the PG-13 you must have one year of specialized experience at the PG-12 (or equivalent) level or higher. The specialized experience includes respond to customer inquires internally and externally, utilize various electronic technology, manage human resources issues with staff.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a Non Sensitive, Low-Risk Risk background investigation. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background for a Non-Sensitive Low-Rsk. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs; this process may take 6 weeks or longer. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to pass the background investigation.
