Duties

Help
  • Use a broad range of professional knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relevant to the substance abuse program and addiction medicine outpatient program o conduct comprehensive substance abuse treatment of patients.
  • Apply complex rehabilitation principles to conduct comprehensive substance use evaluations.
  • Assess primary and secondary problems to include behavioral health diagnosing.
  • Apply regulatory guidance to meet program requirements.
  • Hold primary case management responsibility for patients, using professional knowledge of outpatient and inpatient addiction medicine programs and alcohol and drug rehabilitation program concepts, principles, procedures, and practices
  • Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Conduct ongoing review of patient progress; evaluates and modifies treatment plans to meet changing needs.
  • Hold primary case management responsibility for implementing complex treatment plans, arranging for required services with other providers and/or outside resources as needed.
  • Develop and implement orientation and training for patients, medical staff, commanders and key unit personnel, supervisors, and in the community.
  • Consult with commanders and supervisory personnel to improve identification and referral procedures.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 15 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires a current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.

Basic Requirements for Social Worker (Substance Abuse):

Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

License: A current, active, and, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes conducting clinical assessments of substance abuse patients; formulating behavioral health treatment plans; and providing professional counseling to substance abuse patients.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Education
