About the Position: This position is with Safety and Occupational Health Office located in Charleston, South Cartolina.
Performs safety and occupational health investigations, inspections and surveys.
Oversees and reports on a variety of standard and recurring programs to maintain employee's safety and health, including hearing conservation program.
Develop and provide formal and informal training of employees by covering a variety of standard, general safety and occupational health subjects including mishap prevention, office safety and safe working practices.
Utilizes resources to identify training applicable to organizational needs and/or develops training for areas not adequately covered.
Develops and executes District evacuation plans and annual rehearsals to educate and exercise employees on quick and orderly egress during an emergency.
Conducts independent and moderately complex inspections of organizational elements where exposure and hazards are likely to occur to identify potential threats and hazards before they create damage and/or injury.
Prepares safety inspection reports and follow-ups to ensure correction of any discrepancies.
Process data, including survey, investigation, and industrial hygiene data, by inputting into safety and medical databases and pull requested reports.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Position requires wearing personal protective equipment, as appropriate.
Incumbent must possess or obtain and maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license to conduct site visits.
Position requires a pre-employment physical to include use of respirator and annual physical examination and may require participation in the medical surveillance program.
This is a Career Program CP-12 Position, successful completion of required training for the Safety career program position is required one year after acceptance in the program.
Incumbent may be required to travel in TDY status 40% or more, as needed to conduct site visits.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GS-0019-09- Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Providing training about general safety and occupational health subjects such as mishap prevention, office safety or safe working practices; AND 2) conducts safety surveys or inspections of buildings, equipment areas or work sites; AND 3) creating accident and incident reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
