Duties

Help
  • You will serve as Financial Technician, Comptroller Department (N8), Military Sealift Command, Norfolk, Va.
  • You will examine documents for accuracy, adequacy of documentation, compliance with regulations for goods and services provided to or by the government.
  • You will work accurately with figures.
  • You will establish, maintain, correct and close pay accounts for active, reserve, or retired armed forces personnel and their annuitants.
  • You will perform technician work in support of budget analysis and administration such as maintain ledgers, compiling, consolidating, checking and arranging funding data.
  • You will make collections not related to pay and leave., maintaining retirement records, or processing health benefit forms.

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final SECRET security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This is a Financial Management Level I certified position per the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 2012, Section 1599d. You must achieve this level within prescribed timelines. Certification requirements are in DoD Instruction 1300.26.
  • Relocation expenses (i.e. PCS) may be authorized in accordance with applicable travel regulations.

Qualifications

GS-06: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience using job-relevant information systems and/or software applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, automated research tools, database applications, and the Internet
  • Experience clearly and effectively articulating, presenting, and promoting.
  • Experience making clear and convincing oral presentations, istening effectively; clarifies information as needed

GS-05: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience meeting the needs of both internal and external customers. Delivers high-quality products and services; is committed to continuous improvement
  • Experience identifying and analyzing problems; weighs relevance and accuracy of information; seeks/generates and evaluates alternative perspectives/solutions; makes timely/effective recommendations, based on potential implications of findings or conclusions
  • Experience evaluating to identify the causes of problems and chooses courses of action that balance the interests of the mission and stakeholders
