About the Position: Serves as the Deputy Director of the Geospatial Research Laboratory (GRL), U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC).

This position is being filled as a Supervisory Interdisciplinary DB-05 (GS-15), which may be filled under any of the listed Job Family Series.

  • Serves as the Deputy Director of the Geospatial Research Laboratory (GRL).
  • Aids in the development of research programs in geospatial science and engineering disciplines.
  • Anticipates demands for assets and resources to meet program requirements.
  • Leads multidisciplinary workforce engaged in research and development programs.
  • Serves as the GRL representative on the ERDC Board of Deputy Directors and the ERDC Junior Program Budget Advisory Committee
  • Operates in five major areas including technical program execution, fiscal management (to include departmental overhead), program administration, marketing/communications, and human capital.
  • Develops and implements GRL business processes and policies and manages GRL assets.
  • Assists the GRL Director in managing execution of the Laboratory's program and, in the Director's absence, assumes authority and duties of the GRL Director.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R.
  • Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Appointment requires one-year supervisory probationary period unless previously completed.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the below experience:

Specialized Experience: To qualify for DB-05 (GS-15) grade level or equivalency, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the DB-04 (GS-12/14) level in Federal service which includes: Forming teams of diverse specialists to address problems involving geospatial technologies; Authoring technical and programmatic publications and conducting presentations to higher-level officials; Establishing relationships with organizational units at various levels; and Providing leadership and accepting responsibility for employees under current supervision.

This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DB-05 (equivalent to GS-15). In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1998, an employee of the Laboratory Demonstration project must have a current average performance score of 2.5 or above in order to be selected for promotion. All applicants currently employed under a Laboratory Demonstration Project must include their most recent performance appraisal score as part of their electronic resume. If you are a Lab Demo employee submitting your resume for the first time, or if you have previously submitted your resume without your most recent score, you must submit your resume now with the following statement to be included in the section on your training: Current Performance Rating 2.5.

Education
