About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). This position is located at the Strategic Systems Support Element, Alexandria, Virginia.
Serve as the technical expert concerning data standards, engineering, needs, plans, situations, and problems throughout the full spectrum of iterative project or study life cycle.
Serve as the Senior Data Scientist in the Data Integration Directorate, Strategic Systems Support Element (SSSE).
Recommend ongoing improvements to scientific methods and algorithms that lead to findings.
Develop processes regarding the capture, retention, and analysis of data, tracks metrics and trends.
Work alongside directorate leadership, scientists, and developers, and suggests other methodologies and products of interest which may meet project objectives or improve project outcomes.
Participate in meetings, conferences, briefings, and seminars related to data science planning, technologies, and support system concepts.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS) security clearance based on a T5 investigation/Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with eligibility for sensitive compartmented information (SCI).
Requires Temporary Duty (TDY) travel up to 25% of the time.
May require consent to take a counterintelligence scope polygraph examination, if given access to a special access program.
Must pass the organization’s Personnel Reliability Program which includes credit check, drug screening, polygraph and psychological evaluation.
Individual must sign a statement attesting to the understanding of DCIPS provisions.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

Basic Requirement for Data Scientist:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position.

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one (1) year of experience at the GG-13 grade level, or equivalent, which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as:
Conducting studies, analyzing findings, and provide recommendations on advanced statistical and mathematical theories and techniques relating to data analysis.
Providing recommendations to other governmental agencies and private industry data science representatives.
Conducting briefings and/or seminars related to data science planning, technologies, and support systems concepts.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GG/GS-13
