Duties

Help
  • You will provide expert scientific and technical advisor on radiobiology, R/N defense and all interrelated programs.
  • You will direct execution of the overall research and development program entrusted to Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute (AFRRI).
  • You will ensure the continuity of viable radiobiological and combined nuclear/biological/chemical injury research programs responsive to the policies, needs, and requirements of AFRRI and DoD.
  • You will integrate current and future military requirements to prioritize lines of research that will lead to the most impactful advances in medical readiness for DoD nuclear operations.
  • You will coordinate, review, and prioritize the research and development studies and publish the Institute Annual Plan to document the scientific program.
  • You will integrate radiobiology and R/N defense into conceptual projects that have been/are being examined, evaluated and/or resolved.
  • You will develop new concepts and formulate the method of analysis and the plan for conducting the study.
  • You will establish the scope and objectives of the study, direct the analysis, and draw conclusions and recommendations from the results of the broad spectrum of topics ranging from biodefense acquisitions to planning development.
  • You will serve as technical advisor to assist in determining both course of actions and mitigation efforts towards feasible and suitable solutions.
  • You will develop, prepare, coordinate, and approve the publication of all formal program requirements and technology transition documentation.
  • You will assist the Institute Director in the preparation of DoD budget documentation and by preparing and briefing the research and development program at DoD technical program reviews and other forums as required.
  • You will exercise the full range of managerial and supervisory responsibilities and is responsible for complying with Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and internal control program regulations and requirements.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing expert scientific and technical advisory on radiobiology, radiological/nuclear defense, and all related programs; 2) Developing new concepts, and formulating the method of analysis and the plan for conducting studies in the field of radiobiology; 3) Ensuring the continuity of viable radiobiological and combined nuclear/biological/chemical injury research programs responsive to the policies, needs, and requirements of a command; and 4) Overseeing scientific agreements and grants programs.

Education

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:

Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
