Summary

The Office of Proceedings is seeking an experienced GS-15 attorney to serve as a second Deputy Director (Policy). Under the direction of the Director of Office of Proceedings, the Deputy will be responsible for overseeing the work of attorneys and other professionals related to legal, administrative, and policy expertise whileensuring that the agency complies with the policies and procedures to support the strategic mission.

Duties

Help

The work of the position requires the Deputy to participate in the formulation and execution of necessary policies, plans, and procedures. This will also include assisting with approving, reviewing, and delegating high-level assignments received in the office. These responsibilities also include providing oversight and serving as a first-line supervisor to two divisions in OP.

The major duties of this position are:

  • Providing legal advice and counseling
  • Addressing and resolving highly complex legal issues.
  • Supervising a staff of attorneys and administrative staff in OP.
  • Consulting with and advising the Director and other OP managers on operations including budgeting, planning, and the establishment of policies.
  • The Deputy is also responsible for advising the Director on congressional policies set forth by Congress and assisting the division with effectively achieving its goals.

Qualifications

To be selected at the GS-_15_ grade level, you must have at least 4 years of specialized experience as an attorney which should include at least one year of supervising other attorneys. This experience would have been demonstrated by performing the following types of tasks: conducting legal research, developing recommended outcomes, and drafting decisions for cases before the Board, including adjudications and rulemaking proceedings; reviewing and editing the legal work of attorneys and paralegals; and advising senior leaders of matters of law and policy. The individual provides continuous supervision of subordinate attorneys including managing their workload. Oversees the work of attorneys and paralegals in the Office of Proceedings.
