Help

In this position, you will:
- Take principal ownership of the design, development, and maintenance of software foundational to world-class test and characterization capabilities for radio frequency (RF) systems.
- Utilize a systems-level approach to enable novel RF measurement methods in developing software frameworks that encompass test automation, data acquisition, data post-processing, data management, and data analytics.
- Lead and contribute to experimentation in state-of-the-art research laboratories for the evaluation of RF systems and 5G telecommunications infrastructure.
- Support the planning and execution of complex spectrum sharing and co-existence studies administered by the designated program office, hosted at NIST.
- Design and oversee a unifying software architecture to enable world-class RF system test capabilities and industry relevance.
- Define software development best practices to integrate test and evaluation tools and data frameworks for group research and program office projects.
- Lead coordination with researchers and engineers within the organization as well as external partners to inform measurement, data, and software requirements.
- You will serve as a principal team member and subject matter expert in scientific testing and systems metrology to the group. Duties include training and mentoring of junior group members, participating in strategic planning, leading troubleshooting activities, dissemination of scientific results at relevant technical conferences, and referral in technical journals and NIST reports.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
A. Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience
or additional education.

In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity
and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.

AND

In addition to the basic requirements above, applicants must possess 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level (ZP-III at NIST).
Specialized experience is defined as:
- Experience with RF and mm-wave measurement, test automation, configuration, and calibration of scientific equipment.
- Data acquisition, management, analysis, data basing, and data networking.
- Coding and use of best practices in software languages including Python.
- Ability to apply telecommunications physical layer operating principles, design experiments, and implement IT network principles.
- Ability to apply operating principles of metrology-grade RF tests and measurements, including vector network analysis, vector signal analysis, and over-the-air test environments.
