Help
  • You will execute programs in support of the Undersea Systems, Payloads and Weapon Focus Areas.
  • You will participate in group endeavors involving many interested parties and perspectives to help establish future DON science and technology needs and opportunities.
  • You will implement science and technology programs through the management and execution of individual projects and tasks.
  • You will formulate overall program objectives and tasks, provide program documentation and procurement materials, select performers and monitor progress.
  • You will research concepts for new undersea weapons.
  • You will recognize promising new technologies in their infancy in the Undersea Systems, Payloads and Weapons Focus Area and evaluate their applicability to Department of Navy missions in broad scientific areas.
  • You will recognize S and T trends and gaps, explore and establish the likely value of new research areas, and identify promising S and T approaches
  • You will be a subject matter expert in your field of physics, materials science, chemistry, air-independent propulsion, energetics, hydrodynamics, guidance, control, artificial intelligence, autonomy or collaborative behavior.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11/13 grade level or pay band (NP-03) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate most or all of the following: 1.) Leading complex system development and/or management of large-scale research and development programs. 2.) Preparing and delivering oral and written presentations to a wide variety of audiences; 3.) Planning, programming, budgeting, evaluating and analyzing the research and development programs; and 4.) Executing programs in support of the Undersea Sytems.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess.

  1. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Transcripts must be submitted to verify all education claims.
