Duties

Help
  • Serves as Army Community Services (ACS) Division Chief at a garrison designated as a most optimized strategically responsive (MOSR) installation with full professional and technical responsibility for the programs.
  • Responsible for implementing and managing a full range of programs designed for identifying and resolving problems, and promoting Soldier readiness, families, and civilian employees.
  • Manages ACS programs in the following functional areas: Deployment/Mobilization Readiness, Family Advocacy Program, Relocation, Employment Assistance, Information and Referral, Financial Readiness, Exceptional Family Member Program, etc.
  • Communicates mission and organization goals to all subordinates; sets performance objectives and standards, evaluates subordinates and leads by example.
  • Serves on a variety of ACS activity councils to keep informed on operations and/or to coordinate programs and requirements.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Child Care Background is required for this position in accordance with DODI 1402.5 (e) enclosure 5; memorandum dated March 6, 1992 Subject "Criminal History Background Checks on Employees in Child Care Services".
  • Temporary Duty travel (TDY) may be required up to 10% of the time.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Army Community Services Division Chief:

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, etc.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR

Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing all organizational activities and programs to ensure efficiency of operation and quality of services provided; determining the distribution and use of resources allocated to the organization's social service programs and services; and developing and implementing plans and procedures to provide for a comprehensive Soldier and family support program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
