Duties

Help

You will serve as the deputy to the Division Chief (a military billet - O5), providing ongoing management continuity performing a variety of duties including budget, manpower, material, facilities, and services needed to support the division's daily operations.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Coordinating and directing the accomplishments of all functions comprising the assigned mission of the Division encompassing extremely large, difficult, and diverse programs and projects.
  • Directing a large workforce engaged in but not limited to: aircraft maintenance and overhaul, mechanical and electronic equipment repair, engineering support for the overhauls facility and operational filed units, supply/logistics management, budget/financial management, contracting/procurement and numerous support functions related to supporting a total aircraft platform.
  • Developing and maintaining up-to date information on the measure of performance for the Division and decides or recommends what action is required to maintain operational/productions schedules.
  • Coordinating and directing the accomplishment of budget and accounting functions comprising the assigned mission of the organization.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. This includes Time-In-Grade requirements for current status employees applying through merit promotion procedures. Status applicants applying for a promotion must have 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade.

Applicants for the GS-14 grade level must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples may include: Managing/supervising a product line, technical function, or organization and making or participating in making decisions as to the impact of changing priorities, attention to work progress and adjustments in plans and schedules; experience recommending long range plans for operation of diverse programs and projects; experience with detailed resource requirements to present policy options and recommendations where proposals involve substantial resources; experience with activity based costing to develop criteria to determine the best use of resources or to contract for services depending upon personnel, equipment, and capital investment requirements.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Recruitment Incentive

Selectee(s) for this position who are newly appointed to a permanent position are authorized to receive a one-time recruitment incentive of 10% of the salary, including locality for this position. Receipt of the bonus will require a 12-month service agreement. "Newly appointed" refers to the first appointment (regardless of tenure) as an employee of the Federal Government, an appointment following a break in service of at least 90 days from a previous appointment as an employee of the Federal Government, or, in certain cases, an appointment following a break in service of less than 90 days from a previous appointment as an employee of the Federal Government.

Relocation Incentive

Selectee(s) for this position who are current federal employees on permanent appointments and will be moving outside of the current commuting area of their current position to accept this position are authorized to receive a one-time relocation incentive of 10% of the salary including locality for this position. Receipt of the bonus will require a 12-month service agreement. The employee must establish a residence in the new geographic area prior to payment.


Student Loan

Selectee(s) for this position who are newly appointed to a permanent or term position may be eligible for student loan repayment up to $10,000 (pre-tax) for one calendar year. More than one loan may be repaid if the combined repayments do not exceed $10,000. Receipt of this incentive will require a three-year service agreement.
