Duties

Help

Provides leadership, guidance, and strategic vision to the Support Services Department. Develops relationships with subordinate employees, Senate staff and senior leaders from partner agencies to ensure the SAA organization delivers high quality service to the Senate community. Plans, develops, and implements policies and procedures to ensure timely and high-quality support to stakeholders. Develops and directs product development efforts for existing and new services and products and markets offerings. Participates in short and long-term planning efforts and provides strategic advice to leadership and subordinate managers. Sets budgets, priorities, and practices for Senate services and ensures employees have resources, including equipment, to deliver services to Senate community. Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Sets budgets, priorities, and practices for Senate services and ensures employees have resources, including equipment, to deliver services to the Senate community.
  • Continuity of government and emergency management responsibilities.

Required Work Experience

  •  Eight (8) to ten (10) years of progressively responsible professional and supervisory experience in customer
    relations.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, departmental rules, regulations, procedures and functions, including policies and regulations set by the Senate Rules Committee and the Senate Committee on Ethics.
  • Knowledge of equipment, computers and relevant software/Web applications, and spreadsheets and
    databases.
  • Knowledge of the current principles and practices of public administration, including governmental budgeting, procurement, contracting, personnel, and capital project management.
  • Ability to plan, direct and manage, and supervise programs and activities of multiple divisions.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate resources to achieve program goals and objectives.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and make recommendations for action.
  • Ability to plan and review department operations and review the work of managerial personnel.

Working Conditions

  • Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.

  • This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.

  • The U.S. Senate network cannot be taken offline for maintenance during the workday, or while the Senate is in session. As such, maintenance windows may only occur at night, on weekends, and occasionally on holidays. Employees who perform systems upgrades, maintenance, wiring, backups, support our alternate data centers will have schedules that include working nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment and is essentially sedentary with occasional walking.
  • Safely carry items under 25 pounds.
  • May require long periods of standing and computer use.
  • This position requires in-person or virtual presence during meetings, and briefings with customers and staff.
  • Responsibilities will include reading and retaining information, and the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Work is performed in different locations, both on and off the Capitol complex.

Security Clearance

  • This position requires that the applicant obtain and maintain a Top Secret U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens in order for the SAA to submit your application for a security clearance.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications.
