Duties

Help
  • Work with highly complex cases in which individuals are severely impacted by moderate to severe psychiatric diagnoses to include factors such as, history of trauma, co-occurring conditions and suicide.
  • Collect biopsychosocial information about patients using interview, case history, and observation techniques, and assessment methods.
  • Analyze information collected to determine psychiatric diagnosis, treatment plan and/or advisability of counseling or referral to other specialists or institutions.
  • Review notes and information collected to identify problems and concerns.
  • Consult reference material, to identify symptoms, make diagnoses, and develop therapeutic or treatment plan.
  • Interact with other professionals to discuss therapy or treatment, new resources or technique
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on psychiatric diagnosis, identified problems and treatment needs for each case. Utilizes social work systems and psychological theories, principals and evidenced bas
  • Provide emergency on-call crisis management services for behavioral health cases as designated by the section or department needs.
  • Independently provide comprehensive social work services in the form of casework and case management by consulting on or developing discharge plans for complicated cases, psychosocial assessments and mental status examinations.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must have and maintain a valid, unrestricted license to practice independently as a clinical social worker in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • In accordance with BUMEDINST 1500.15F employees assigned to or subject to being assigned to duties providing direct patient care, either diagnostic or therapeutic must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • This position may require a pre-employment physical examination.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TOP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • This position requires on-call duties, overtime to include weekends and federal holidays, out of cycle, or unscheduled training or on an emergency basis.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • The work will require the incumbent to work evenings/nights; rotating shifts, extended hours or other schedules common to hospital operations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Basic Requirement for Social Worker:

Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience:One year of specialized experience which includes conducting bio-psychosocial evaluations of behavioral health patients, providing individual or group clinical counseling, and developing behavioral health treatment plans or recommendations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Licensure: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.

Education
