Help

This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Inspector General (OIG), Office of Public Affairs & Communications. The incumbent is responsible for supervising a team of communications professionals and is expected to assist and oversee all editing and writing for the Immediate OIG including reports, reviews, communications materials, and other work products.

As a Supervisory Writer-Editor, you will:

  • Develop, review, and revise written products to ensure messages are fair, clear and convincing, and meet OIG quality standards.
  • Provide senior writing and editing support for high-level special projects, like the Semiannual Report to Congress (SAR), editing congressional testimony, developing reporting metrics on high media and congressional interest reports for senior leadership, and further defining/refining the edit process.
  • Improve the content and clarity of information provided by: brainstorming with teams to develop messages from data; identifying opportunities to strengthen or clarify overall themes, messages, and addressing gaps in logic or evidence; translating technical or complex information into simple, clear, and concise language; suggesting ways to streamline or reorganize drafts and helping to respond to comments from stakeholders and agencies; and collaborating across the OIG's directorates on the continued development of writing and editing skills within the OIG, the development of the report templates and internal style guide, and other efforts that serve to unify report development across the OIG.
  • Communicate frequently and effectively both orally and in writing with senior executives on multiple products on fast-paced timelines, as well as a variety of other stakeholders to reconcile differing perspectives, independently or with directors or managers.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience or General experience for this position includes:

  • Advising other writers on subject matter or as an editor; AND
  • Preparing or finalizing documents/content to provide official information on behalf of an organization; AND
  • Ensuring coordination of all timely document/content submissions.
