Duties

Help

As an IT Specialist (APPSW), you will perform the following duties:

  • Initiates, coordinates, and participates in actions to obtain the necessary support to implement projects through use of inhouse government resources and/or contractual actions.
  • Integrates information system components, performance tuning tools and technologies, and system diagnostic tools and fault identification techniques to serve as lead systems administrator for organizational enterprise systems.
  • Provides customer support, technical assistance, systems advisory service, and training. Provides on-going technical advice and guidance to customers in the planning and use of applications software and a variety of other routine IT issues that impact the use, operation, and security for systems.
  • Plans and coordinates projects that involve multiple stages in the systems and applications development life cycle management process, e.g., systems analysis; software development; database administration; and customer support.
This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other IT Specialist (APPSW) GS-2210-13/14 FPL 14 positions within the Department of Commerce in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements in the vacancy announcements are based on the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook, which contains federal qualification standards. Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must meet all of the below requirements:

BASIC REQUIREMENT: For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

  • Attention to Detail: is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service: Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, considering the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

To qualify at the GS-1 l3evel:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS- 12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is described as:

  • Performing system administration or oversight and management of cloud platform systems such as SalesForce, Office 365 Business apps, SharePoint or Drupal.
  • Implementing new system requirements on systems such as SalesForce, Office 365 Business apps, SharePoint or Drupal. AND
  • Performing system improvements based on technical knowledge and experience of SalesForce, Office 365 Business apps, SharePoint or Drupal.

To qualify at the GS-14 level:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as:

  • Leading system administration or oversight and management of cloud platform systems such as SalesForce, Office 365 Business apps, SharePoint or Drupal.
  • Identifying, gathering and implementing new business requirements in systems such as SalesForce, Office 365 Business apps, SharePoint or Drupal.
  • Proactively identifying system issues or processes and recommend system improvements on systems such as SalesForce, Office 365 Business apps, SharePoint or Drupal.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
