Duties

Help
  • You will install backboards, racks, wall jacks and associated equipment.
  • You will test internal and external wiring for communication and information systems to include voice and data circuits.
  • You will Install and terminate copper and fiber optic cables of telecommunication systems.
  • You will repair worn wires, loose connections or broken components of telecommunications systems.
  • You will use hand tools of the trade such as crimpers, punch-down tools, pipe benders, and wire wrap/unwrap tools.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • Must use manual or portable power tools weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted for extended periods in uncomfortable positions.
  • Must have normal vision with/without corrective devices and be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors while making cable connections.
  • The employee is required to handle reels of cable weighing 500 lbs. with the assistance of others and being able to lift and carry unassisted, items weighing up to 35 lbs.
  • The employee is required to sign an agreement not to disclose, in any manner, Classified Information to unauthorized persons.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

  • Must be able to obtain a valid California Commercial Class "B" driver's license within one year of hire date.

Positions involved with Department maintenance activities, such as maintenance of weapon systems, hardware, equipment, software, installation infrastructure, or any combination thereof, including depot-level maintenance and repair.

Employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Must have normal vision with/without corrective devices and be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors while making cable connections. Worker is subject to electrical shock and minor cuts, bruises, and contusions from handling cable and equipment and using power and hand tools.

The work requires frequent bending, stooping, crawling, pulling cables and wires using various hand tools, climbing ladders, working in high places and working overhead or in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions. Required use manual or portable power tools weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted for extended periods in uncomfortable positions. The employee is required to handle reels of cable weighing 500 lbs. with the assistance of others and being able to lift and carry unassisted, items weighing up to 35 lbs.


This position has promotion potential to the WG-10 grade. If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.

WG-10: You must obtain Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Installer level 2 or higher certification for promotion consideration to the WG-10 level.

WG-05: You must have 6 months experience as an entry level helper for promotion consideration to WG-08.
